“The Traveling Lost Cause Repair Shop – Volume I”

May 2009

For this piece, I sat in the gallery for two weeks repairing what people brought me (fingers, shoes, relationships, what have you). The repairs were wide ranging and oftentimes unorthodox, but they were always performed with the intention of making the object/relationship/ideal stronger. There was some paperwork to be filled out (a repair tag and an order form), and then I would have my secretary (the gallery-sitter) call them when their repair was ready. Most repairs were ready within the two weeks, some are still being worked on. All preliminary drawings for repairs were done in a handmade sketchbook created especially for this piece. As I finished the repairs, they were logged in a separated “Completed Repairs” book that was also handmade for the purpose of containing the documentation for each piece.
